An Outstanding Season for C.D. Beauchamp in 2018

For Charles, C.D. Beauchamp 2018 was an outstanding season of racing for the 30-year-old from Ormstown, Quebec.

This being his best year so far behind the wheel of the 88 Pro Stock, Charles set out to capture the 2018 Track Championship at the Cornwall Motor Speedway, which has been his home track for several years now. And in the end, he achieved that goal.

The first race of the season, however, did not go as planned with a disappointing sixth-place finish, and Jocelyn Roy tacking home the victory. The team soon realized that a championship run was going to be a challenge as the competition at Cornwall in the Pro-Stock class is very high.

The second race of the 2018 season was won once again by Roy, with Beauchamp coming in second. “I remember Richard Beauchamp,” Charles’ dad explained, “that we will win some races this year and lose some, but we will take each race at a time and strive for the best outcome that night,” — a realistic view considering the opponents at Cornwall.

By the third race of the season, C.D. Beauchamp was back in the game after picking up his first win. A week later, he once again visited victory lane and was clearly in the championship hunt.

Charles and Richard Beauchamp concluded after the first few races that the team would have to be consistent throughout the remainder of the season if they were going to have any chance at the championship. Going up against the likes of Jocelyn Roy, Stephane Lebrun, Rock Aubin, and Marc Lalonde, all of these drivers are also striving for the championship title.

Beauchamp would maintain this momentum for the rest of the season, claiming three more victories along with five top-five finishes.

The final 2018 points’ race at the Cornwall Speedway was, however, a dismal race for the 88 team, as everything that could go wrong, did. The good news for the team that day was they only had to finish the feature event. C.D. would cross the line almost dead last but still had the points to clinch the Cornwall Motor Speedway Championship — his first championship in the Pro Stock division.

With the regular season done, the 88 Team now moved on to complete the DirtCar Pros Stock series, which started earlier in the year. By September, Beauchamp found himself in the chase for the 2018 DIRTcar Pro stock series championship.

The team would continue in the series championship hunt throughout September, but in early October, C.D. would win the one race that has alluded many of the top Pro Stock drivers — the DIRTcar Pro Stock 50 at Super Dirt Week — held annually in early October.

C.D. came into this race with two wins under his belt and out drove the field to take home the biggest win of his racing career. Charles explained, “It was the most unbelievable feeling as I was going around the track on the last lap. I couldn’t believe it was happening and that I was going to win the race.”

The team upbeat with the Super Dirt Week win soon focus on the final series race of the year, held at the Brockville Speedways Loud & Dirty Brand Fall Nationals.
With just a few points apart between Jocelyn Roy and C.D., Beauchamp and Roy fought it out on the track. Beauchamp would once again take home the win, however, Roy who finished fourth, won the series, leaving the 88 Team in second place.

Yes, it would have been the ultimate way to finish the season, winning the DIRTcar series championship. However, a track championship at Cornwall Motor Speedway and a Super Dirt Week win was accomplished, something most drivers will never see. Charles explained that “challenging for the track championship at Cornwall was tough going up against Roy but our plan of being consistent and to at least finish each race in the top five paid off. We managed five wins and five top-five finishes over the season and we are very pleased with the way our plan unfolded.”

Charles went on to thank his crew: Richard Beauchamp, Frederic Faubert, and Eric Varin. “I would also like to thank my sponsors, Qualitek, Garage Claude Faubert, Lauvaltech and finally Carosserie Mario Leger.”

The plan for next year will be to defend his title at Cornwall Motor Speedway. The team is also looking at the possibility of racing at Airborne Park Speedway on a weekly basis. As for the DIRTcar series, they will see how the season starts to unfold before making a full commitment, never the less the 2019 season is already shaping up to be a busy one the 88 team.
