Pro Stocks to Return to Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway in 2020

It was just a few weeks ago that the news of Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway was to close and was up for sale.

The news last week was the track would be open for racing in 2020, under a one-year trial by Howard Commander, owner of Lebanon Valley and Albany-Saratoga.

The initial plan was to run as a DIRTcar sanctioned track with Sportsman Modified as the weekly headline class. Also running weekly would be Limited Sportsman, Strictly Stocks and the returning Super Stocks classes.

The latest announcement is that the DIRTcar Pro Stock class would also return for the 2020 race season.

The schedule will be much the same as last season and will be finalized in the coming weeks.

The class will also be allegeable to collect Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship points.

The news out of the C.D. Beauchamp racing team camp was positive after learning that Airborne would run the Pro Stock class in 2020.

C. D. explains: “With the support that we have from DIRTcar since last year, I think that the Pro Stock is back on track with a good car count, and now with the good news out of Airborne as a venue race, 2020 is looking very positive.”

“The change that we did to the rulebook alone with representing drivers for almost every track, Jay Fitzgerald for Airborne, Danny Vogel for Drummond, my dad working on sponsorship program for Cornwall, we will have a great 2020 season. Also with new tracks on the tour, this season will be good for everyone. Can-Am being dirt should bring a couple cars out at Cornwall and at Airborne.” C. D. went on to explain

The news about the Pro Stocks returning to Airborne was also well received by Jay Fitzgerald, who likewise campaigned his Pro Stock at Airborne last season.

“As soon I heard Airborne was opening again, I immediately messaged Lyle Devore and started campaigning to get the Pro Stocks back,” explained Jay. “I contacted everyone I knew in the class to get a rough count on how many cars and sent the list over to Lyle. Airborne is a very important track for the Pro Stock division. It is a central location for Albany area tracks and Canada tracks as well as the more local guys that run Can-Am. We are all really excited to have this track bringing our division on board and can’t thank Howard Commander, Lyle Devore, Mike Perrotti and Robbie Knowles enough for this.”

Jay went on to explain: “Plattsburgh is an awesome facility with a great staff and some of the best fans! We will be making the trip to every race on the Plattsburgh schedule. It’s going to be a very exciting race season for the Pro Stocks with all of the new tracks bringing the division back and a very exciting DIRTcar Series schedule!”

Marc Lalonde, the current Pro Stock track champion at Airborne, was ecstatic reading the news that the Pro Stock division will be back at the historic Plattsburgh track. “This is excellent news. We will be there for sure. Wow! You just made my day. Staff is great, the track is wide and it ends early. And I love the place. I can’t wait to tell the students tomorrow morning.,” Marc explained.

It has been an emotional roller coaster ride for many racers at the Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway in the past few weeks but, with the hard work of many who raced there or helped out at the track, along with the support from Howard Commander, Airborne Speedway is back.
