Kyle Dingwall – Always a Force on the Track

Veteran race fans at the Cornwall Motor Speedway have long recognized the talent of Kyle Dingwall. Year after year, this racer from Iroquois, Ontario, has shown how well versed he is getting his number 66 car around the track at Cornwall Motors Speedway. Each week, this two-time Cornwall Motor Speedway 358 champion quietly parks his small team down by the pit’s entrance, out of sight from the big flashy race haulers lined up further down the pits. Kyle, like many racers, is a weekend warrior, running on a limited budget. However, this second-generation racer knows how to get the job done.

Kyle started in 2001 racing in the Sportsman Modified division. He would move on to bigger things by 2005 after winning the Sportsman Modified championship at the Brockville Ontario Speedway in 2004. Kyle quickly fit into the groove behind the wheel of his Modified and, in 2006, Kyle became the youngest driver to win the Cornwall Motor Speedways 358 Modified championship.

Kyle would repeat this success in 2009, winning a second 358 Modified championship at Cornwall, along with a second-place at Brockville Ontario Speedway.

Kyle’s success at the Cornwall Motor Speedway may not be a big surprise as there has been a member of the Dingwall Family racing at the ¼-oval track since the 70s. Kyle’s dad, Keith, raced in the Late Model division at Cornwall Motor Speedway, winning the 1979 Late Model championship at Speedway.

The success of this small team, however, has not been limited to just Cornwall, Kyle won the first Annual Applefest Shootout at Brighton Speedway in 2005. In 2012, Team 66’s success would claim the 2012 358 Modified championship at the Brockville Ontario Speedway.

This team works hard on a limited budget, but their outstanding stats show that big budgets don’t always get the results expected, as it takes skill and talent to make a great driver. If you just look at the stats from 2008 to the present, Kyle has finished 18 times in the top four in points between Cornwall and Brockville Speedways.

Kyle would also pick up two 4th-place finishes at Cornwall over the years in his small block racing against the Big Block Supper DIRTCar series drivers, showing once again, talented driving can overcome the bigger competition.

It’s a sure bet Kyle got this drive to win from Keith, especially during the years he and his dad raced against one other. The year was 2006. Kyle recalls: «My dad and I raced Edelweiss, Brockville, and Cornwall every week. It was fun. A lot of work keeping two cars going that year. I recall a couple of nights I had wrecked and he gave his car up for me to keep up the points.» That year Kyle won his first 358 championships at Cornwall.

For Kyle, this season will be 20 years since he began racing, but if you look closely, he has been involved in racing since he was a young boy. He is just continuing where his father left off.

For 2021, Kyle will be once again in his usual pit area at Cornwall and Brockville, eyeing the competition, and making his presence known on the track. It is with certainty that if a driver lets his guard down, Kyle will get by and just might get that next win or championship. Kyle would like to personally thank all his sponsors. If it were not for them, this racing would not be possible. Many thanks to Reabels Plumbing, Toy Storage Boat Transport, Windmill Construction, Speedy Auto Glass Cornwall, Mobil Air, McMillan Automotive, B&M Mechanical, C Double J Harvesting, Quality Marine Construction, Eastern Ontario Millwrighting, Coop-a-loop, Polite Sand and Gravel, O’Neills Pub, Mr.Mozzarella Iroquois, and Bicknell Racing Products.
