Final Round Canadian National Series Set to Close Out the 50th Season with a Bang
With the final round of the Fat Les’s Chip Stand, Canadian Nationals set for Sunday, September 1, there are still five drivers who are in the running to capture the title.
Last season’s champion and current points leader, Luke Whitteker, is sighting on top with 288 points. Steve Bernier, running a close second, ten points off the leader with 278, followed by Steve Bernard with 263 points, Yan Bussière with 241 points and Carey Terrance with 240 points, are still in the game.
With anyone of the top five drivers having a slip-up or just having a bad night of racing can change everything in the way of points standings as only 48 points are separating between first and fifth place.
The final round of the Canadian Nationals will have the drivers race 125 laps on the legendary ¼-mile oval to decide this year’s champion
I asked Luke Whitteker what his game plan to overcome this final round challenge.
“We will prepare everything — car, tires, etc. — during the week before the race. This way, once at the track, all we have to do is concentrate on the race at hand. Once done with time trials and heat races, it will be a gamble on our starting position. With that said, I hope to be fast out of the box and just stay out of trouble. One hundred and twenty-five laps is a long race and hope to be there at the end!”
It is pretty much the same sentiment over at the Steve Bernier camp.
“Yes it will be a long race for sure, but we have a good group on our team and if we avoid any trouble on the track, I think we have a very good chance at the win,” explained Steve.
Steve Bernard, who takes a more methodical approach, explained:
“The car will be ready to go well before the race. For me, it will be judging how the race is unfolding and avoiding any mishaps on the track. It’s all about getting the right position for the final 50-lap push which will decide the winner.”
The final round of the Fat Les’s Chip Stand Canadian National will be an exciting race, capping off the 50th season of celebrations with a bang.
