With the 2019 season getting ever closer Robby Knowles and his team at Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway have decided to take the chance of reestablishing the Pro-Stock class as one of its main divisions in the 2019 line up.

With most tracks letting the Pro Stock class slide off their weekly schedule in the last number of years, Robby’s vision is to bring this once popular class back into the forefront as it is undeniably one of the most competitive classes on the DIRTcar circuit.

I asked a number of the Pro Stock drivers what they thought of Airborne’s move and all were very excited about the opportunity to race this season at Airborne.

C.D. Beauchamp explains :

“Yes it’s some of the best news we have had for our class in the last couple of years! I think that a third track close to the border will help the Pro Stocks! Even some guys from Malta were interested in making a couple of races this season at Plattsburgh.”

Marc Lalonde expressed a similar sentiment :

“If we can raise enough money through our annual fundraiser, we will be racing every event at Airborne. This is a very good opportunity for the Pro Stock family and us.”

Rock Aubin was also very excited about the fact that Airborne is adding the Pro Stock class to their schedule but could not comment at this time what their schedule be as their work commitments may come into play. Rock explained,

“Our current plans are to run selective nights, but we cannot commit to every race as of now but things could change.”

It was also confirmed by Carole Lebrun that Stephane Lebrun would also be racing at Airborne this season. As Carole explains,

“We are both very excited that Airborne will be running the Pro Stock class this season, and it is always a good thing for other tracks to add the Pro Stocks to their line up.”

I finally contacted Jocelyn Roy driver of the number 48 Pro Stock about Airborne’s move to include the Pro Stock to the season line up.

“This is very good news for our class,” Jocelyn explains. “We have a meeting coming up soon which will clarify our seasons’ schedule but I’ am very confident that the 48 team will make Airborne Speedway our home track this season.”

Yes, it’s a big gamble for this newly appointed promoter, but Robby Knowles has always given a 110% effort to provide drivers and fans the best racing experience possible.

Knowles explains that the idea of bringing the Pro Stock into the Airborne came about from a discussion with several drives near the end of last season. Robby explains,

“A number of Pro Stock teams from Granby and Cornwall had expressed interest in finding a Saturday night home, so we are giving it a shot. We’ve heard from teams at both tracks and also some teams in the capital district in New York. The division will run a “half season” to help minimize travel expenses. The Pro Stocks put on two great races the last two seasons during their DIRTcar Pro Stock Series events, so we’re looking forward to exciting, side-by-side action.”

This season’s Pro Stock division will run a modified schedule to help keep travel expenses down, but the points system will still go towards the overall Mr. DirtCar title. There is a minimum number of races required by DIRTcar. If there is an event cancelation, it will be rescheduled over the summer.

This coming season is looking very bright for Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway; with a number of changes on the way and the addition of the Pro Stock class ,which in itself is a bold move. Robby Knowles and his team are looking forward to providing the very best in racing for both drivers and fans.
