Longtime Media Specialist Robby Knowles Takes over as Promoter at Airborne Park Speedway La version française ici With the Airborne Speedways 2018 season in the record books, a new chapter is about to begin for this historic track. The 2019 season will see longtime track media specialist Robby Knowles take over the promoter’s duties at Airborne Park Speedway. With the departure of John Walker as the promoter, the track’s long time owners reached out to Knowles to succeed Walker in the promoter’s roll. Robby gladly accepted the offer and is currently getting up to speed with his new role. The road to becoming track promoter began 23 years ago with Robby attending his first race there at the tender age of four months old. His father Rick Knowles was the track announcer at the time and the family would join him in the VIP booth as he announced the race in the mid-90s. By the age of 12, Robby was now helping his father and uncle Rob with their local show “Motor Sports Magazine’ which was broadcasted on local public access. Robby started out doing the filming duties for the show, later conducting driver’s interviews and the play-by-play action. In 2012 Robby’s father sadly passed away unexpectedly. Robby, however, decided to try and keep his father’s dream alive and kept the show running for an additional two years. Knowles would continue on as the track announcer until he was promoted to media director. I asked Robby, as he begins his new role, if there are any major changes coming for next season. “Plans are currently in the works for next season. I’ve been having meetings with the team of advisors. The basic plan is to stick with the 358 Mods and Sportsman as the two DIRTcar divisions. We will look at the possibility of entertaining Pro Stock events for this season as well,” Knowles explains. This is good news for local races fans. The choices to have Robby Knowles come in, as the new track promoter was definitely a good move. With a dedicated team of owners and a diverse group of advisors, Robby will certainly move the program forward in a positive way in the coming season -- a win for fans and racers alike.
