A good battle between Raabe and Bernier

Chroniques Don Simpson
Once again Mother Nature was playing havoc with many of the local racetracks. I decided to travel down to Airborne Park Speedway where the sky was clear and at a confortable temperature of 25oC. I was not the only one. This speedway drew a good crowd and I witnessed one of the most exciting races I have seen this year in the 358 Modified class.

Modified

In the 358 Modified Egglefield Ford feature, Steve Bernier would take the early lead over Greg Atkins in the 1NY car, while a good three-way battle developed between last week’s feature winner Roger Labreche, Mike Perrotte and Chris Raabe. By lap 14, Chris in the 01 car had managed to work its way to second, chasing down Steve Bernier when Jake Scarborough spun in turn one, bringing out the yellow. On the restart, Chris Raabe passed Steve Bernier in turn two, but spun doing a complete 360, leaving Raabe way back in sixth place. For the next 10 laps, Chris would work his way through the field, back to the second place position. On lap 25, once again the yellow flew due to bunching up the pack. On the restart, Chris drove down under Bernier to take a slight lead. The two would battle for the next two laps until Chris managed to take a commanding lead, taking home the win, with Steve Bernier coming in second, followed by Todd Stone. Crédit photo : Don Simpson

Sportsman

In the Fidelis Care Sportsman feature, Connor Cleveland would once again find his way to victory lane. Connor drove a perfect race, working his way from the tenth starting position to the lead within ten laps. The race had numerous cautions, but Connor drove to the lead on each restart. Local driver Moïse Page, in the 49x, drove a hard race, working his way through the field to challenge Connor for the lead in the last few laps of the race. However, he just could not get by the current points’ leader at the end. Connor Cleveland would pick up the win, closely followed by Moïse Page in second place, with Joey Scarborough finishing third.
