Matt Sheppard and Billy Decker pole sitter on the Mile for the weekend! The activities started at the NY State Fairgrounds with the time trials for both the Big Block Modifieds and 358-Modifieds with Matt Sheppard claiming his first pole award in the Big Block ranks as Billy Decker got his fifth best qualifying time in the 358-Modified. The HBR team of Matt Sheppard and Jimmy Phelps collected 2 places out of 3 in the time trials sessions for the Syracuse 200 on Sunday afternoon. Sheppard set fast time with a 29.410; only 0.002 seconds faster than Brett Hearn while Jimmy Phelps finished third with a 29.435 seconds. Billy Decker, Billy Dunn and Duane Howard rounded out the top 6 as they are all qualified for Sunday. Mario Clair 37th and David Hebert with his 358 took the 46th spot. The afternoon started with the 358-Modified Time Trials with Billy Decker claiming his 5 pole position in this event with a time of 31.116 seconds, a nice surprise in second with Carey Terrance and in third with Chris Raabe. Veteran racers Ronnie Johnson, Tim McCreadie and Stewart Friesen also have secured their spot for Saturday afternoon. Our Quebec runners did very well with David Hebert and Mario Clair finishing in the top 10 with an 8th for Hebert and 10th for Clair while Alain Boisvert finished a solid 18th. A busy day at the Mile tomorrow with the USAC cars arriving at the speedway in the Morning, the Futures events will be held in the afternoon along with the time trials for the Sportsman as we will watch several local runners including Mathieu Desjardins currently first in the DIRTcar Sportsman Series.
