The USAC Silver Crown returns to Super DIRT Week XLIII! The United States Auto Club will be back at Super DIRT Week after an 11 year hiatus with the highest division in the Silver Crown category for the Salt City 78, a series still to be recognized in the Northeast region but has a long history with several big names in motorsports that have ran with the USAC Silver Crown. A car that has minimum weight of 1625 pounds including the driver has a similar look to our SpeedSTR that runs at our tracks in Quebec but is bigger. The speed at Syracuse can easily be compared to what the 358-Modifieds are running on the Mile. It will be the last race of the 11 events on the calendar that included visits at famed tracks such as Eldora, Terre-Haute and Lucas Oil Speedway. The championship race will end at Syracuse with everything still on the line as Kody Swanson leading the way with a slim 12-point lead over Tracy Hines. The veteran racer was one of the very few to compete in early 2000s, finishing 20th in 2002. The top 10 in points should be present on the Mile. Two names that are well known at Super DIRT Week will be in the field. The first one is Richie Tobias, a driver that Syracuse race fans really enjoy seeing on the speedway. Tobias led several laps during both USAC events. In 2002, he led the race up to lap 97 having issues with his mount and on the following year, he finished second behind J.J. Yeley, winner of both races. The 2003 event was memorable as I remember Tobias racing out of turn 4 on three wheels trying to catch Yeley that had a more powerful machine on the long Syracuse stretch. The other driver to watch will be Stewart Friesen that runs under the city of Syracuse colors, Friesen has collected several wins in the 360 sprint division lately and has won the Syracuse 200 twice, he will need to adjust rapidly to the Silver Crown car, and he will be one to watch for sure! The return of the USAC Silver Crown at Super DIRT Week is a great addition to an already full week of events!
