Desjardins will try to end his Sportsman career on the Mile on a high note. He has confirmed that that he will be moving up to the 358 Modifieds in 2015.
We all know that Mathieu came so close to claiming the victory at Syracuse 2 years ago; Rocky Warner surprised Desjardins with a last lap pass on the outside. Desjardins would have been the first Quebec driver to win a feature event during Super DIRT Week.
That year, Desjardins and his team were having a near perfect week with a win in the Futures race and the quickest time in Time Trials which put them on the Pole for the main event. Obviously Mathieu was really disappointed that year and he’s been looking to make up for that 2nd place ever since, but a wreck last year ended his chance for victory.
Desjardins will look to get it done this year, which would also help his cause in the DIRTcar Series championship as he is currently leading the points entering Super DIRT Week. Mathieu has been vocal about it; he wants to win the DIRTcar Series Title and the Sportsman race on the Mile before moving up to the Modifieds.
Desjardins is on the other hand conscious that a lot of things need to go right for it to happen. You’ve got to have lady luck on your side, good equipment, a good driver and a good crew behind him. Mathieu did gain experience at Syracuse by working with the David Hebert team in previous years, which has helped him with his own car.
Keep an eye on Desjardins who is looking to go out in style at Super DIRT Week XLIII!
