Dillon Sallows 2011 Season in Review; First Career Win Highlights Season for DKD Racing Team
Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

October 31, 2011

At the beginning of the 2011 racing season, Dillon Sallows and the DKD Racing team set their goals. They wanted to win a race, and be competitive throughout the year at both Mohawk Raceway, and Cornwall Speedway, their weekly tracks this season. They also wanted to race at Syracuse for the first time. Looking back on the season now, Sallows and his Wolfe Island, Ontario team accomplished all of their goals, and are eager to get through the off-season and get back on the track in 2012.

The season got underway in late April for Sallows, as he raced at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park. Sallows had a ninth place finish, and he continued to run well once Mohawk Raceway opened, posting a second place finish on opening night. Sallows struggled to find consistency through the first part of year, but shown many nights that he had a great car, battling up front at both Mohawk Raceway and Cornwall on occasion. Throughout the first couple months of the year, Sallows was challenging for a top five at both weekly tracks.

In July, Sallows had his most productive month on the track, and that came to a paramount in late July, winning the Chantelle and Haley Lake Memorial race at Brockville Speedway on July 22nd and backing that up with another win the next day at Cornwall Speedway, giving him his first career DIRTcar Sportsman feature win. The DKD team was closely involved with putting on the Dash for Cash event at Brockville, as both the young girls were friends with Dillon at the time of their tragic death two years ago.

Sallows continued to battle for a top five spot in the Sportsman division at both Mohawk Raceway and Cornwall through the final weeks of the season. In the end, he would finish the year sixth overall at Cornwall, and seventh at Mohawk International Raceway.

As the season began to draw closer, Sallows and the DKD team began to prepare for Super DIRT Week. Sallows was making his first ever appearance at the track as a driver. The weekend started out well for Sallows posting the fourth fastest speed in the first practice session, but a miss in the engine soon developed and it plagued the team through qualifying and the DIRTcar Sportsman Futures race. Sallows was unable to qualify for the 30 lap main event.

In 2012, Sallows will be back in the Sportsman division once again. The will be racing weekly at Mohawk International Raceway for certain, and possibly other tracks at different times through the year.

Sallows, who operates his race team with his parents, Dallas and Kim Sallows races under the banner on DKD Racing, the initials of each family member. In addition to the C & B Enterprises sponsorship for 2011, DKD Racing will also have an impressive list of sponsors that include Erin & Buggo, Shortall’s Sand & Gravel, Unity Savings, Pat Roger’s Towing, Alex McCoy Plumbing and Heating, The W.I.P.P. Restaurant, Hollingsworth Supply Services, Finish Line Web Design, Sign A Rama, and Megaly’s General Store.
