Dunn Ends Can Am Modified Season With Top Five Finish and Third Consecutive Track Championship; Returns With Sprint Car This Weekend

While Billy Dunn had the 2011 Championship clinched at Can Am a couple weeks before the points had ended, it was made official this past weekend as Dunn attended Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports park season finale for the 358 Modifieds. Just like the rest of the DIRTcar sanctioned tracks, the points stop counting after Labor Day Weekend. Dunn also had double features lined up at Canandaigua Speedway on Saturday night as well as a feature event to run with the Empire Super Sprints.

At Can Am on Friday night, Dunn was fast right out of the trailer, posting the fastest speed in practice. In the eight lap qualifying race, Dunn started from the fifth position and was starting to make his way forward when a mechanical problem caused Dunn to slow in turn two. He was pushed back to the pit area to that attention of the pit crew. The problem was quickly fixed, and Dunn was able to return for the 25 lap main event. He started from inside the seventh row in the 13th position. Dunn once again stopped in turn two on the first lap, but he continued from the rear and he worked his way through the field. By lap 16 he was up to sixth, and moved into the top five in the closing laps.

It was a busy Saturday night at Canandaigua Speedway as Dunn not only had the regular scheduled events for the night, but also a Big Block Modified feature that was postponed from August 13th as well as a 25 lap Empire Super Sprints main event from the same night. In the feature from August 13th, Dunn finished is sixth place, while the regular feature and the Sprint Car feature ended early for Dunn.

This coming weekend Dunn will be back at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park, only this time, he will be in competition with Empire Super Sprints. The rest of the 2011 season is still up in the air at this time.

Dunn is proud to race under the banner of American Traditions Motorsports for his second full season. With the support of ATM, Pemco Contracting, Number One Speed, Fast Lube of Watertown, Frosty’s Ice Cream, SUNY Canton, Jiffy Dumpster, Finger Lakes Auto Machine, North Country Custom, R & D Fabrication and Bicknell Racing Products, 2011 will be a very exciting season for Billy Dunn.
