Billings Continues Consistency With Top Five Finishes at Mohawk Raceway and Brockville Speedway
Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design
August 18, 2011

Matt Billings has been Mr. Consistency during the 2011-racing season, posting top five finishes virtually every night. He does have a win earlier this season at Brockville Speedway, and he entered this past weekend’s events at Mohawk International Raceway and Brockville Speedway looking to add to that win total.

Since making the Friday night switch from Can Am to Mohawk Raceway, Billings has shown great improvement. He was back at the track on Friday night. In the 25 lap main event, he started from deep in the field, and quickly advanced towards the front of the pack, moving into the top five at lap 20. Billings finished the race in fourth place.

At Brockville on Saturday night, Billings started fourth in his qualifying heat race, and advanced to third at the checkered flag. After reporting to the pit area, Billings made some changes to the setup on the car in preparation for the night’s 30 lap main event. Matt lined up seventh on the starting grid for the feature event and when the first caution of the night was displayed at lap one, Billings was already up to fourth. On the restart, Billings continued to move forward and grabbed the lead on lap five. He held the top spot for a few laps before falling to second just before halfway. Billings maintained the second spot for the duration of the race.

“We come here to win, and sometimes it gets real frustrating”, says the competitive 18 year old. “We have so many second and third place finishes this season. Hopefully we can get back to victory lane soon, and have some good luck in the big races coming up after Labor Day Weekend”.

This coming weekend, Billings will be back at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night. The rest of the weekend schedule is up in the air at this time as Brockville Speedway does not have the Modified division on the schedule for this coming week.
