The 2011 season has been a good one for Greg Belyea and the Excel Tower Service racing team. Belyea has posted seven feature wins so far this year, and capped off the terrific season with the track championship at his home track, Brighton Speedway.

Saturday night was the final night of points at the track, and Belyea entered the evening with a sizeable 155-point lead. Belyea won his qualifying heat, and just needed to start the feature to earn his first ever track championship. Belyea went on to finish the 25 lap main event in seventh place and was honoured in victory lane at the end of the night for his championship season.

“Of all the years that we have raced, this year was the first time that we have ever been in a position to win a championship. Work commitments always kept us from running a full season, and we never really chased the points”, says Belyea. “This year we have been fortunate enough to contend for the title here as well as Can Am, and to get that first championship here at Brighton is pretty special”.

Belyea is quick to thank Lee Gill and his team for the help over the course of the 2011 racing season.

“Lee and his team have been great competitors, and even more importantly, they have been great friends”, say Belyea. I have to thank all of them for their help this season, and we look forward to working with them again next year”.

In 36 races this season, Belyea has posted a remarkable 34 top ten finishes, 30 of those finishes were inside the top five, including seven feature wins. Five of those wins came at Brighton Speedway, with the other two coming early in the season at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park.

Belyea still has a couple of races that he hopes to attend before the 2011 season comes to an end. This Friday, they plan to travel to Fulton Speedway for the final race in the Go Nuclear Late Model Challenge Series. On Thursday, October 6th the plan to run the open motor car against the World of Outlaw Late Models at Rolling Wheels Raceway.
