Belyea Gets Second Place Finish at Can Am; Eyes Can Am and Brighton Championships
Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

August 30, 2011

With August now over, we approach September and the final month of the 2011 racing season for Greg Belyea and the Excel Tower Service Racing team. Belyea has a lot to look forward to this month with the Can Am championship up for grabs as well as the Brighton Speedway point title that Belyea currently leads. The battle at Can Am comes to fruition this Friday night with the final night of points. The Brighton Speedway championship will be decided on Applefest Weekend on September 23rd.

This past weekend Belyea made the usual Friday night visit to Can Am, looking to get back into championship contention. After crashing last week in the qualifier the Gilco team spent several hours in the shop getting the car repaired. The hard work paid off as Belyea went out and won his preliminary qualifier. In the 20 lap main event, Belyea started on the front row and led the opening laps of the race before dropping to second. Belyea finished the race in second place, and moving to within ten points in the battle for the championship.

“The car was really good tonight”, says Belyea. “I have the thank Lee and the Gilco team for all their hard work in the shop this week. The car was a mess after last Friday night and they put in some long hours getting it ready for me”.

On Saturday night, Belyea made a rare appearance at the Fulton Speedway for the next round of the Go Nuclear Late Model Challenge Series. Belyea started on the front row in his qualifying heat but slid back to fifth before the checkered flag.

“The car is way to loose right now”, explains Belyea. “We are going to make some adjustments and hopefully we can get the car dialed in for the feature”.

The changes on the car didn’t help, as Belyea started from 13th and maintained that spot throughout the duration of the race.

This coming weekend, Belyea will make his first ever visit to the Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York on Thursday night as they host a qualifier for the Great Crate Race. On Friday night will be the final night of points at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park, and the weekend will close with a rare Sunday night race at Brighton Speedway as the Late Model division goes topless.

Greg Belyea and Excel Tower Service along with the Brighton Speedway would like to remind everyone about the Great Crate Race taking place at the Brighton Speedway on September 17th, 2011. The unprecedented $5000 to win Late Model event will see cars from all over Ontario, New York State, Pennsylvania and beyond battle for a purse of more then $20000.
