Billings Gets Sixth Place Finish at Mohawk Raceway; Early Race Incident Puts Billings Out of Contention at the BOS

August 30, 2011

While this past weekend consisted of the typical Friday night events at Mohawk Raceway and Saturday night at the Brockville Speedway, it was the final weekend of regular racing, as Matt Billings and the Billings Motorsports team embark on the biggest events of the 2011 season.

On Friday night at Mohawk Raceway, Billings started near mid pack in the 25 lap main event. He held his own for much of the race, and finished with a very respectable sixth place run.

Billings was back at Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, and started the night off well by winning his qualifying heat race. He started from fourth and jumped out to the lead on the first lap and cruised to the win. In the 30 lap main event, Billings rolled off the starting grid from the ninth position and began to move forward at the drop of the green flag. Just four laps into the race, another car spun directly into the path of the Billings Motorsports machine causing heave damage to the left side of the car. Billings went to the pit area, and the team worked hard to get the car fixed and get him back on the track. He rejoined the field and worked his way through the field, but after losing several laps in the pits, Billings was scored in 14th place at the checkered flag.

“We had a fast car tonight but when the 35 car spun we had no where to go, and that pretty much ended our night”, explains Billings. “I tried to make an evasive move at the last moment, but we still got him with our left front”.

This coming weekend Billings will be at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night returning for the first time since mid-July. On Saturday night, he will be back at the Brockville Speedway looking to rebound from last week, and get back into the top three in the 358 Modified point standings. On Sunday night, Billings will be at Cornwall Speedway for the next round of the 358 Modified Mr. DIRTcar Series.

After this weekend, Billings will return to the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series with stops at Autodrome Drummond on September 10th, back at Mohawk Raceway on September 16th, and then Super DIRT Week events at Cayuga County Fair Speedway on Wednesday, October 5th, Rolling Wheels Raceway on Thursday, October 6th, and the New York State Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 8th. The Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series will conclude at Brockville Speedway on October 15th.
