Whitteker Gets Top Ten Finish at Granby; Cornwall Speedway Rained Out for Second Consecutive Week

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

August 30, 2011

After a quiet weekend last weekend with rain playing havoc with Cornwall last Sunday, Luke Whitteker was looking forward to getting back on track this weekend. He had events planned for Friday night at Autodrome Granby with a 50 lap main event, and then a 100 lap Super Series finale at Autodrome Drummond before returning for the final points night at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday.

At Granby, Luke began the night by posting the fourth fastest speed in his group during practice. In his eight lap qualifier, Whitteker started from third, but got involved in an early race spin and made contact with the wall. The damage appeared minimal and Luke restarted from the rear of the field. He climbed back up to fifth place, just missing a spot in the redraw for one of the top 12 starting spots in the 50 lap main event. Whitteker started the feature from outside of the eighth row in 16th place and finished the race in tenth place.

On Saturday night at Autodrome Drummond, as the Whitteker Motorsports team went over the car, they noticed some damage to the rear end of the car, and without taking any chances they decided to take the car back home.

“We noticed the rear end bearing was about to come apart, and we decided it wasn’t worth taking any chances”, recalls Whitteker. “We came back home to get it fixed and ready to go for Cornwall”.

While the car was ready to go the next day, Mother Nature had other ideas, as rain started late in the morning and lasted all day long forcing Cornwall Speedway to cancel their racing program for the night.

This coming weekend, Whitteker will close out the regular season at Autodrome Granby on Friday night. On Sunday night will be the season finale at Cornwall as they host a 125 lap Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series/Canadian Nationals Series combined event.

After Cornwall this coming weekend, the series will then go to Autodrome Drummond on September 10th, Mohawk International Raceway on September 16th, and then to the 40th annual Super DIRT Week events, beginning Wednesday, October 5th at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, October 6th at Rolling Wheels Raceway and Saturday, October 8th at the New York State Fairgrounds. The Series will conclude on Saturday, October 15th at the Brockville Ontario Speedway.

Whitteker Motorsports have recently had t-shirts and can cozies made, and they can be purchased at the team trailer at the track. The t-shirts are $25 and the cozies are just $3. The proceeds of the merchandise sales are being donated to the CHEO Foundation in Ottawa for sick kids, and to date, Whitteker has donated $850 to the organization.
