Sallows Reflects on 2011 Season Accomplishments; Looks Ahead to Upcoming Events Through End of Season

August 24, 2011

With each passing season since Dillon Sallows and the DKD Racing team arrived on the scene with their DIRTcar Sportsman, the improvement they have shown has been very noticeable. When the 2011 season began, Sallows was on the verge of a breakthrough season, there primary goals going into the season were to win at least one feature, and battle for a top five in points at both Mohawk International Raceway and Cornwall Speedway.

With just two weeks remaining until the end of the regular season at both tracks, Sallows has accomplished most of his goals that he set earlier. He currently sits seventh in track points at Mohawk Raceway, with a mathematical chance at catching up to fifth before the final checkered flag falls next weekend at Mohawk. He has yet to win this year at MIR, but has had several great runs this season.

“We have run well at MIR at times this season, and I think we had a car capable of winning more then once, but we ended up getting a flat tire, or something happens to the car and we haven’t been able to get it done”, says Sallows. “With two weeks remaining, hopefully we can run well, and finally get that win here”.

Cornwall has been Sallows favorite track this season, and he has the results to back that up. Not only has he posted his first career DIRTcar Sportsman win at the track on July 24th, he also sits sixth in track points, only four points out of the top five. Sallows has two weeks left at Cornwall this season, and hopes to win at least once more before the season ends after Labor Day Weekend.

“I really enjoying coming to Cornwall. It is a great track and we have had some success there this year, and won our first race there”, says Sallows. “We have three races left (double features this Sunday), and hopefully we can run well and get into the top five in points”.

The win at Cornwall wasn’t the only win this year for Sallows. They also won the Chantelle and Haley Lake Memorial Race at Brockville Speedway back on July 23rd. Sallows and the DKD Racing team hosted the event in memory of their friends that were tragically killed in a car accident in July of 2009.

Looking ahead, Sallows has some special events planned as the season begins to wind down. Mohawk Raceway will host a Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series race on September 16th. This will conclude the season at MIR for Sallows. The following week, on Friday, September 23rd, Sallows will be back at Brighton Speedway for their annual Applefest Weekend. This race will also be a Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series race. The following couple weeks are still up in the air, but Dillon and the DKD Racing team plan to attend Super DIRT Week at the New York State Fairgrounds, participating in the DIRTcar Sportsman Futures Race on Thursday, October 6th, and the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman race at the Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 8th.

Sallows, who operates his race team with his parents, Dallas and Kim Sallows races under the banner on DKD Racing, the initials of each family member. In addition to the C & B Enterprises sponsorship for 2011, DKD Racing will also have an impressive list of sponsors that include Erin & Buggo, Shortall’s Sand & Gravel, Unity Savings, Pat Roger’s Towing, Alex McCoy Plumbing and Heating, The W.I.P.P. Restaurant, Hollingsworth Supply Services, Finish Line Web Design, Sign A Rama, and Megaly’s General Store.
