Evoy Wins Big at Mohawk Raceway; Battles Back From Mid-Race Wreck to Finish Third at Brockville

August 22, 2011

The month of August has been extremely good to Dylan Evoy and the Evoy Racing team. Going into this past weekend they have been undefeated through August winning back-to-back features at both Mohawk Raceway and Brockville Speedway. Evoy was looking to continue his hot streak through this weekend with events at both tracks.

On Friday night at MIR, it was round two of the Frenchie’s Built Ford Tough Sportsman Series. Evoy won the opening event just two weeks earlier. In the preliminary qualifying heat race, Evoy started from the sixth position, but it only took a few laps for him to get to the lead and pick up the win. In the 30 lap main event, he started from the ninth position. It only took three laps for him to work his way through the field and take over the top spot. He went unchallenged for the remainder of the race, getting his fourth consecutive Mohawk Raceway victory and eighth MIR win of 2011. With the win, Evoy clinched the 2011 Mohawk Raceway Sportsman championship.

While coming off back-to-back wins at Brockville, Evoy still faces a much bigger challenge on Saturday nights, and the point standings are very close between the top three drivers. Evoy entered the night with a slim eight point lead in the standings, and only a 12 point advantage over third place. In his qualifying heat, Evoy started from seventh place and worked his way up to second before the checkered flag. In the 25 lap main event, Evoy fired from the 15th position and quickly began to move forward. The first caution flew on lap nine and Evoy had now worked his way into the top ten. On the ensuing restart, Evoy and another car got tangled in turn two, but the damage was minimal and after the two cars were separated Evoy joined the rear of the field. At the drop of the green flag, with just 15 laps remaining Evoy did a masterful job of driving through the pack, getting back up into the top ten in just three laps. The yellow was back out on lap 14 and Evoy was now showing in the seventh position. In the remaining laps, he was able to work his way up to third, salvaging a good finish on a night that could have been much worse. Evoy now carries a six point lead with just two events remaining in the battle for the 2011 championship.

This coming weekend, Evoy will be looking to keep his Mohawk Raceway winning streak alive on Friday night, and then return to Brockville on Saturday night in pursuit of his second consecutive Brockville Speedway Sportsman title.
