Billings Gets Seventh Place Finish at Mohawk Raceway on Friday Night

It was a relatively quiet weekend for Matt Billings and the Billings Motorsports team this past weekend with just Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night. Brockville Speedway did not have the 358 Modified division scheduled for this week, and Billings had a rare Saturday night off.

At Mohawk Raceway on Friday night, Billings started his qualifying heat from the fifth position. After getting a great start at the drop of the green flag, Billings briefly took over the top spot before settling into second place for the duration of the eight-lap qualifier. In the 25 lap main event, Billings lined up from outside of the fifth row in the tenth position. By lap eight he was up to seventh, but the dry slick track conditions made it tough to pass. Billings ended the race in seventh place.

“We tried high and low to find some grip out there, but the track was real slick”, says Billings. “We will come back here the next couple weeks and see if we can get the car dialed in a little more, and hopefully we will have a good night when we are here with the DIRTcar Series next month”.

With his rare Saturday night off from competition at Brockville Speedway, Billings still found himself at the track taking in the racing action headlined by the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series.

“I wish we were racing tonight”, claims Billings. “We only have two more point races left here and then they are done at Brockville for a month. I would rather not have a week off, especially this late in the season”.

This coming weekend Billings will be back at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, and will then return to action at Brockville on Saturday night. With just two more weeks left in the local point championships, Billings is looking to have a solid run to the finish, and build some momentum going into the Mr. DIRTcar events coming up after Labor Day Weekend, including the 358 Modified race at Syracuse in October.
