Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team bad a busy weekend planned, with the usual Friday night events at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night with the Crate Late Model, and then the final two races of the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series with races at Brockville Speedway on Saturday and Cornwall Speedway on Sunday.

First up was the team’s weekly trip across the St. Lawrence River to LaFargeville, New York and Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park. The night began well for the Fowl Mood team as Potts captured the checkered flag in his qualifying heat. In the 20 lap main event, Potts started from outside of the second row in position number four. By halfway, Potts had climbed to second place. With five laps remaining, Potts continued to run second, but the caution was displayed to the field one final time on lap 16. Before the restart, the race leader had to make a pit stop with a flat tire, giving Potts the race lead with just four laps remaining. Potts was looking for his first win of the season at Can Am, and held the top spot until the final lap. Potts crossed the finish line in second place.

“We were so close tonight. The car was real good”, says Potts. “We caught a break when the leader had the flat tire with four to go and I thought we had a good shot at our first win here. We will take second and continue to work hard and hopefully we can get this car to victory lane here at Can Am before the end of the season”.

On Saturday night, the Fowl Mood Racing team set off for Brockville Speedway with the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series. In the qualifying heat, Potts started from the seventh position and advanced to fourth place, qualifying for the 30 lap main event. After a brief practice session, Potts lined up on the outside of the seventh row in the 14th position for the feature race. After avoiding a lap ten disaster that brought out the red flag, Potts restarted the race from tenth place. By halfway, Potts had advanced to sixth and he held that spot for the duration of the race.

“We are pretty happy with our run here tonight. We do not have much experience here at Brockville”, says Potts after the feature. “This is a very competitive field of cars in this ODLM Series and we are happy to be a part of it”.

With Brockville now in the books, the team’s focus shifted to Cornwall Speedway. Mother Nature had other plans though, as a persistent rain lasting throughout the day on Sunday forced Cornwall Speedway track officials to cancel their racing program and ending the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series for the 2011 season. Potts finished the year in fourth place in the overall standings.

“We are very proud of our results with the ODLM Series. Hopefully next year they will have more then the four races on the schedule this season”, says Potts. “We would like to congratulate our fellow competitors Greg Belyea, Lee Gill and Kyle Sopaz for finishing the in the top ten in the ODLM point standings.”.

Fowl Mood Racing would not be possible without the support of our sponsors. We would like to thank Hutchinson Fuels, Indewey Excavating, Vanderlaan Building Supplies, Bill’s Johns and Lange & Fetter for all their support, and we look forward to a very exciting 2011 season.
