Whitteker Gets Top Ten Finishes at Granby and Cornwall; Looking Ahead to Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series Events

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

August 17, 2011

Just like many other weekends this season, Luke Whitteker and the Whitteker Motorsports team traveled to Autodrome Granby on Friday and back to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday. Whitteker is battling for a top 10 in the overall track points at Granby, and working towards a top five finish in track points at Cornwall as the end of the season nears.

At Autodrome Granby, Whitteker set the pace early, posting the fastest speed in practice in his group. In his qualifying heat race, Whitteker started fourth place, but dropped to sixth at the finish. After reporting to his pit area, Whitteker and his team made some adjustments to the car, hoping it would be better for the 50 lap main event. Luke started the feature from outside of the eighth row in the 16th position. While Whitteker was able to keep his car clean for the entire race, there was lots of action around him on an unusually wild night at Granby. At the checkered flag, Whitteker finished in 10th place.

Cornwall Speedway was up next for the Whitteker Motorsports team on Sunday night. In his qualifying heat race, Whitteker started from the sixth position, and climbed to fourth at the checkered flag. In the 30 lap main event, Luke started from the ninth position and struggled early as the track conditions caused havoc for many race teams throughout the night. By halfway, Whitteker had climbed to seventh place, but faded on the final restart. It was discovered as he returned to the pits that he had a right rear tire going flat.

“The track was unusually tacky tonight, and I felt like I had to be on the throttle all the time or I was going to get run over”, says Whitteker. “It was a pretty frustrating night, but we will get back to the shop and get ready for next week”.

This coming weekend, Luke Whitteker will be back at Granby on Friday night and Cornwall Speedway on Sunday. With just three races remaining at Cornwall, Whitteker sits sixth in track points, just 29 points out of the top five. Jim’s Performance Plus sponsors Sunday’s event at Cornwall, and Whitteker hopes to take home the checkered flag, just as he did last year on a night sponsored by fellow Iroquois, Ontario resident and friend of the Whitteker Motorsports team.

The 358 Modified Mr. DIRTcar Series will resume on Sunday, September 4th at Cornwall Speedway. From there, the series will go to Autodrome Drummond on September 9th, Mohawk International Raceway on September 16th, and then to the 40th annual Super DIRT Week events, beginning Wednesday, October 5th at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, October 6th at Rolling Wheels Raceway and Saturday, October 8th at the New York State Fairgrounds. The Series will conclude on Saturday, October 15th at the Brockville Ontario Speedway.

“We are really looking forward the Mr. DIRTcar Series events. We had a pretty good run at Merrittville, and the next two races are at tracks that we have raced on quite a bit this season, so hopefully we will have a bit of an edge”, says Whitteker. “There is a lot of competition on the tour, and hopefully we can improve on our results from last year”.

Whitteker Motorsports have recently had t-shirts and can cozies made, and they can be purchased at the team trailer at the track. The t-shirts are $25 and the cozies are just $3. The proceeds of the merchandise sales are being donated to the CHEO Foundation in Ottawa for sick kids, and to date, Whitteker has donated $850 to the organization.

Whitteker Motorsports would like to thank all of their sponsors for the support as they go into a brand new season. Their Sponsors include Rust Check, Coldwell Banker, Steve Summers Coburn Realty, Jim’s Performance Plus, Parcoll Products/Napa Auto Parts, Quaker State, Riverside Pontiac, Toy Storage, Wells and Son Construction, 730 Truck Stop, Lloyd McMillan Equipment Ltd., ERD Engine Research and Development, and Finish Line Web Design.
