Late Race Incident Takes Sallows out at MIR; Rain Saves the Day at Cornwall
Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

August 16, 2011

Just like many other weekends this season, Dillon Sallows and the DKD Racing had a pair events on their schedule, beginning with Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, and Cornwall Speedway on Sunday evening.

At Mohawk Raceway, Sallows has been ever so close to capturing his first win at the track. He is currently battling for fifth in the overall track points, and was hoping for a solid run. He started 12th in the feature, but a flat tire sent him to the pits. He would have to come from the rear of the field. He again moved his way forward, until getting caught up in a late race incident. He was unable to continue and was credited with a disappointing 18th place finish.

At Cornwall Speedway on Sunday, Sallows started his qualifying heat from the fifth position and had a good run in the eight-lap event, advancing to third at the checkered flag. Back in the pit area, Sallows and the team made some adjustments to the car, and were confident that they could make their way through the field and possibly contend for another Cornwall victory. At the drop of the green flag, a light rain began to fall, but the race continued. On the second lap of the race, contact from another car while racing in the top five caused some front end damage, and triggered a multi car wreck behind them. As the carnage of damaged racecars was being dealt with rain began to intensify, and shortly after the announcement was made to postpone the Sportsman feature. Sallows caught a break with the weather, and will now be able to rejoin the rear of the field when the race resumes on August 28th.

This coming weekend will be a rather quiet one for Sallows with just one event on the team’s schedule. They will race at Mohawk International Speedway on Friday night. The Sportsman division has their final night off at Cornwall and will be back with double features on August 28th, followed by the final night of the season on September 4th.

Sallows, who operates his race team with his parents, Dallas and Kim Sallows races under the banner on DKD Racing, the initials of each family member. In addition to the C & B Enterprises sponsorship for 2011, DKD Racing will also have an impressive list of sponsors that include Erin & Buggo, Shortall’s Sand & Gravel, Unity Savings, Pat Roger’s Towing, Alex McCoy Plumbing and Heating, The W.I.P.P. Restaurant, Hollingsworth Supply Services, Finish Line Web Design, Sign A Rama, and Megaly’s General Store.
