Evoy Goes Undefeated Again With Wins at Mohawk Raceway and Brockville Speedway; Takes Over BOS Point Lead

August 16, 2011

It is a pretty rare accomplishment in the ultra competitive Sportsman division to post a perfect weekend sweep, winning two events in one weekend. It is rather unprecedented to do that in back to back weekends, which is what Dylan Evoy and the Evoy Racing team has accomplished. Last weekend Evoy won at Mohawk Raceway and Brockville Speedway and backed that up with a repeat performance this past weekend.

Dylan Evoy entered Friday night’s event at Mohawk Raceway with a 100 point lead in the Sportsman point standings. Evoy did not finish the first race of the season back in May, but since then, he had posted six feature wins at the track in just 10 events, and his lowest finish is fourth place on one occasion, and second place twice. Despite the wins and great stats, they have not come easy for Evoy, who has had some tough challenges along the way. Evoy was hoping to add to those impressive stats as the green flag dropped in the Sportsman feature at MIR on Friday night. Evoy started the race from the 11th position, and climbed through the field. As the first caution came out on lap 11, Evoy was up to second place and looked high and low to get past the leader in the next several laps. On the final circuit, Evoy made his move and grabbed the lead in dramatic fashion, picking up his seventh win of the year at MIR, and third in a row.

“I really thought we were going to end up second”, says Evoy after running second for most of the second half of the race. “That 74 car was pretty fast, and we tried hard to make the pass and couldn’t pull it off. Finally on the last lap we got a good run and we made it work”.

On Saturday night, Evoy returned to their hometown Brockville Ontario Speedway. Evoy is in the midst of a very tight battle for the 2011 Sportsman championship at Brockville, and another win would certainly boost his chances for a repeat title. The night started out with the usual preliminary events, and Evoy started seventh in his heat and advanced to third in the eight lap qualifier. In the 25 lap main event, Evoy started from 14th place, and quickly moved forward. By lap ten, Evoy was into the top five, but he wasn’t done yet. He moved from fifth to third after a great restart on lap ten, and took over the second spot just two laps later. Once making the pass for second, Evoy set his sights on the race leader, and as the flagman displayed the halfway sign, he made the pass for the lead, and went unchallenged through the remaining laps for his second win in a row at Brockville and second consecutive weekend sweep.

“It is pretty cool to be able to sweep the weekend once again”, says Evoy. “Just like last year, we really have come on strong late in the season and I think we have the point lead here now. Hopefully we can keep it up and get the championship again this year”.

This coming weekend, Evoy will be back at Mohawk and Brockville Speedway hoping to continue the momentum that they have going late in the season. Evoy now has 110 point lead at Mohawk Raceway, and has taken over the point lead at Brockville by just eight points.

Dylan would like to invite everyone to vote for him on the Brockville Speedway website. The top 15 in points are in the voting, and the top eight drivers with the most votes will be in a dash for cash at Brockville this coming Saturday night paying $500 to the winner.
