Lee Gill Takes Feature Win at Can Am; OLDM Series Events Coming Up Next

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

August 15, 2011

It was a big night at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night as Lee Gill and his fellow Late Model competitors had a special guest in their division this week as NASCAR driver and Speed TV personality Kenny Wallace made his first ever visit to the Lafargeville, New York facility.

The night began with qualifying heats, and Gill cruised to victory giving him the outside of front row starting position for the 20 lap main event. Gill took the lead at the drop of the green flag, and despite several early race incidents behind him, he was able to cruise to victory for the tenth time this season, and eighth at Can Am.

“That was fun racing with Kenny Wallace, it’s a shame that he wasn’t able to finish the race”, says Gill. “We had a great car, and I really have to thank the crew, our sponsors and all of the fans for coming out and watching us each week”.

This coming weekend Lee Gill will return to another track that he has had a great deal of success at, as he joins the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series for their Eastern Ontario swing to Brockville and Cornwall. Gill is no stranger to Brockville, earning the 358 Modified track championship four consecutive seasons from 2000 to 2003. The ODLM Series will conclude at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday. Gill won the ODLM opener at Brighton back in July, but a 20th place finish at South Buxton has him deep in the points and will need a good outing in both upcoming events to get back into the hunt for the championship. Gill is sixth place in points, 33 points out of the top spot.

“We have had a lot of success over the years at Brockville, and we are really looking forward to getting back up there”, says Gill. “There are a lot of great people up there, and it will be nice to see everyone there. Hopefully some of our past experience there will pay off, but it’s a whole new game there now”.
