Lee Gill Wins Again at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park; Looking Forward to Special Guest in Late Model Competition This Weekend

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

August 10, 2011

With the exception of three races this season where Lee Gill was unable to finish the feature, he has been at our near the top of the field in the remaining 12 races he has entered going into last weekend. He had posted an impressive record consisting of eight feature wins, 12 top five finishes, and 12 top ten finishes, with a season low of fourth place. Despite the number of wins, Gill went into the weekend second place in track points, trailing teammate and friend Greg Belyea my just ten points. Gill was back at Can Am this past Friday night, hoping to add to his impressive season stats, and take over the point lead.

After a seven-hour haul to get to their racing venue last weekend, it was a nice leisurely drive through the village of Lafargeville for Friday night’s racing action at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park. The night started off well for Gill, winning his qualifying heat race. In the 20-lap Late Model main event, Gill started in the top five, and quickly challenged for the lead. He moved to second on a lap three restart, and soon took over the top spot. Gill cruised to victory from there, picking up his seventh win of the season at Can Am, and ninth win of the 2011 season in total. With the win, Gill now moves into the point lead at Can Am, with a small four-point advantage, with just a few more weeks remaining.

“We really have ran well here this season for the most part”, says Gill. The competition in this Late Model class is really tough, and we are having a lot of fun not only here, but also traveling up to Brighton occasionally, and running with the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series”.

The next race on the schedule for Lee Gill will be this coming Friday night at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park as NASCAR Nationwide Series driver and SPEED TV commentator Kenny Wallace will be running in the Late Model division. The next ODLM Series event will be held at Brockville Speedway on Saturday, August 20th and Cornwall Speedway on Sunday, August 21st for the series finale.

“It will great to have Kenny here racing with us on Friday night. He is quite popular, and hopefully that will bring some people here to watch and see how he does against the Late Model field”, says Gill.
