With a long haul up the 401 last weekend to South Buxton Speedway, Phil Potts and the Fowl Mood Racing team was glad to be back closer to home, as they continued their weekly racing schedule at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night, and then back to their hometown Brighton Speedway for a Saturday night show.

On Friday night, the team returned to their usual Friday night stop in Lafargeville, New York at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park. They entered the night in fifth place in overall track points with in striking distance of third place. A disappointing finish in his qualifying heat relegated Potts to the rear of the field for the 20 lap main event, but he charged through the field, taking home a strong third place finish, and capturing the third position on track points with just one month remaining in the season.

“We were not very good at all in our qualifying heat, but the team made some adjustments to the car before the feature, and it handled perfectly”, says Potts after the race. “Hopefully we can build on this and come back here next week and battle for the win”.

At Brighton Speedway on Saturday night, Potts was looking to put on a good show in front of the hometown crowd. After finishing third in their qualifying heat race, Potts and the team again made some minor adjustments to the car in preparation for the upcoming 25 lap main event. As the checkered flag was displayed to field, Potts crossed the finish line in sixth place.

This coming weekend, Potts will be at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night as NASCAR driver and Speed TV commentator Kenny Wallace will be on hand to race against the Potts and the rest of the Late Model competitors. Then it is back to Brighton Speedway on Saturday for some hometown racing.

The Ontario Dirt Late Model Series will resume next weekend with stops at Brockville Speedway on Saturday, August 20th and the series will conclude the following night at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday, August 21st.

Fowl Mood Racing would not be possible without the support of our sponsors. We would like to thank Hutchinson Fuels, Indewey Excavating, Vanderlaan Building Supplies, Bill’s Johns and Lange & Fetter for all their support, and we look forward to a very exciting 2011 season.
