Tomkins Continues to Fight Handling Issues at Brewerton; Orange County Rained Out

It most certainly isn’t due to a lack of hard work, or preparation, but Gary Tomkins has struggled since debuting the Duane “Deek” Decker owned Deuce car at Brewerton Speedway just a few weeks ago. It is a brand new car, and together, the team has not found the right combination. Tomkins was back in the Deuce car again this past Friday night, hoping they could get things turned around, and also had plans to be at Orange County Speedway on Saturday night in the Ray and Debbie Tuit owned 673.

The Clifton Springs, New York racer made the trip to Brewerton Speedway on Friday night, and began the night with preliminary qualifying heats. The struggles continued, and he had to start at the rear of the 25 car field in the 35 lap main event. Tomkins moved up slowly, and finished the race in 17th place.

“It certainly isn’t the finish we wanted, but we are learning about this car every week. Hopefully we can apply that next week, and be more competitive in the coming weeks”, says Tomkins.

On Saturday night, it was back in the Ray and Debbie Tuit owned; Mike Sparta Trucking sponsored 673 at Orange County Fair Speedway. Mother Nature had other ideas, and racing action was canceled late in the day on Saturday.

This coming weekend, Tomkins will be back in the “Deuce” car on Friday night at Brewerton. On Saturday he will return to Orange County Speedway with the Ray and Debbie Tuit owned 673. The next race on the Super DIRTcar Series is set for August 25th at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, New York. Tomkins currently sits seventh in the overall series point standings.

Gary Tomkins is currently seeking sponsorship for the 2011 racing season and beyond. He has won at all levels of the sport, including the 2004 Mr. DIRTcar Modified Champion. He has 17 Super DIRTcar Series victories, and has won 45 Big Block Modified feature events at Canandaigua Speedway, 12 wins at Cayuga County Speedway, 7 wins at Rolling Wheels Raceway, plus multiple wins in the Sportsman division at each track.
