Evoy Has Perfect Weekend With Wins at Mohawk Raceway and Brockville Speedway

After a rare off weekend last week due to a rainout at Mohawk International Raceway and Brockville Speedway not having their regular weekly classes, Dylan Evoy, and the Evoy Racing team were anxious to get back to the track. Just like most weekends this season, their destination was Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, and then back to their hometown Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday night.

On Friday night at Mohawk Raceway, The first of three events of the Frenchie’s Ford Built Ford Tough Sportsman Series was on tap. Finally, after two unsuccessful attempts to get the series underway due to rain, MIR was able to get the show in, which featured a full field of 24 Sportsman cars in the pit area. Evoy won his qualifying heat, placing him third in the night’s 35 lap main event. It didn’t take him long to show how strong his car was, and by the first yellow on lap six Evoy had the lead, and led the remaining laps for his seventh win of the season at Mohawk Raceway. After a very thorough post race inspection, Evoy passed with flying colors, while both the second and third place cars failed due to motor infractions.

“We had a real strong car here, and with this being a series race, we were able to start near the front, after winning the heat race”, says Evoy. “I really have to thank my family, the crew, all of our sponsors and all the fans that come out to the track each week”.

It was back to the Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday night, and Evoy was looking to close the gap on the deficit in points. He entered the night trailing by just 13 points. After finishing second in his qualifying heat race, Evoy made some adjustments on the car for the 25 lap Sportsman feature. He lined up from outside the sixth row in the 12th position. A red flag was displayed on lap six for a crash in turn one. By this time, Evoy had been on the move, and was now riding in the sixth spot, and working on the top five. When the race resumed, Evoy continued to move forward, taking over second place by lap ten, and moved into the lead just before halfway. A caution with five laps remaining set up a classic duel, but Dylan held off the late race challenge and cruised to his ninth victory of the 2011-racing season.

“It was pretty much a perfect weekend for us”, says Evoy. “This Sportsman division is ultra competitive, and it is so tough to get a win, so when we pull off a weekend like this we are extremely thankful”.

This coming weekend Evoy will take a 100-point lead into this Friday night’s events at Mohawk International Raceway. On Saturday, he will be looking to close the gap ever further and possibly take over the point lead and get back on top of the Brockville Speedway point standings. Evoy is the reigning Sportsman champion and would like nothing more then to repeat his 2010 accomplishments at the BOS.
