Flat Tire Takes Sallows Out of Contention at MIR; Rained Out at Cornwall

August 8, 2011

Still riding the emotional high of his wins just two weeks ago, Dillon Sallows, of Wolfe Island, Ontario was looking to back to his winning ways as he returned to his regular weekly tracks of Mohawk Raceway on Friday night, and Cornwall Speedway on Sunday.

The night started out well for Sallows as he dominated the preliminary qualifying event, taking the win by more then a full straightaway over the second place car. After making just minor changes to keep up with the track conditions, Sallows was ready for the 35 lap Frenchie’s Built Ford Tough Series race. By winning the heat race, Sallows started from the outside of the front row for the main event. After leading the first few laps, Sallows slid back to third, still running strong as the race neared halfway. Just as the flagman gave the halfway indication on lap 18, Sallows had a right rear tire go down, and he went to the pits for a new tire. He did return to the race, but was several laps down and out of contention.

“We had a real strong car tonight, but it just wasn’t meant to be”, says Sallows. “I know that we had a top five car at the very least. It is disappointing, but we will bounce back, and hopefully we can a win here at MIR before the season is over”.

Sallows stayed in Hogansburg, New York at the race shop owned by Perry and John Francis to save travel time and costs, as Cornwall Speedway was on the schedule for Sunday night, and it is located just a few minutes away from the race shop. After some making some last minute repairs to the car, Sallows headed to Cornwall Speedway, where Sallows drove to victory the last time he was at the track. Just after arriving at Cornwall, rain began to fall, and track officials canceled the night’s events.

This coming weekend Sallows and the DKD Racing team will be back in action at Mohawk Raceway on Friday night and then Cornwall Speedway on Sunday.

Sallows, who operates his race team with his parents, Dallas and Kim Sallows races under the banner on DKD Racing, the initials of each family member. In addition to the C & B Enterprises sponsorship for 2011, DKD Racing will also have an impressive list of sponsors that include Erin & Buggo, Shortall’s Sand & Gravel, Unity Savings, Pat Roger’s Towing, Alex McCoy Plumbing and Heating, The W.I.P.P.
