Lee Gill’s Strong Run at South Buxton Speedway Goes Sour While Running Third in ODLM Series Race

From Lafargeville, New York to South Buxton Raceway is approximately 7 hours away, but the long haul did not stop Lee Gill from making the trip for round two of the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series this past weekend. South Buxton is located near the town of Chatham, Ontario on South Western end of the province. After winning the first round of the series one week ago at Brighton, Gill was eager to get back on track.



After arriving at South Buxton on Saturday, Gill spent some time looking at the track and getting acquainted with the place, as he has never been there before. It didn’t take Gill long to adapt to the unique D-shaped track, as he went out and won his qualifying heat race. In the main event, Gill was running third, and battling for the second spot when a caution came out. While riding around under yellow, Gill felt something wrong with the car and came in to the attention of the pit crew. The result ended with a 20th place finish.



“We were certainly hoping for a better finish then this”, said a disappointed Gill after the race. “It felt like maybe we had broken the pan hard bar, but after further review it appears that a bolt backed out of one of the heim joints”.



By bringing the car in, Gill salvaged the driver shaft on the car, amongst other components that likely would have broken had he stayed on the track. While the results were not there to back up there good run, they had a great day racing with some great competitors of the Ontario Dirt Late Model Series.



The next race on the schedule for Lee Gill will be this coming Friday night at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park. The next ODLM Series event will be held at Brockville Speedway on Saturday, August 20th and Cornwall Speedway on Sunday, August 21st.
